What Our Bodies Say About Us

Morning,

Last weekend as you know I went to Amsterdam.

I was running the marathon on the Sunday so I was thinking of what I can do in the days to make the most of Amsterdam.

Of course I couldn’t get up to the classic things you associate Amsterdam with!

So obviously I decided to go and look at some dead people who have had their skin removed!

Yep, I went to an exhibition called Body Worlds

It is a Gunther Von Hagens’ project, it’s really interesting!

You can check it out here http://www.bodyworlds.com/en/exhibitions/current_exhibitions.html

It’s part of something called the Happiness Project

There’s exhibitions all across the world.

People have basically agreed to donate their body once they have died to the project, then through a technique called plastination the bodies are preserved and displayed in many different wild and wacky ways!

There was about 7-8 floors, all displaying different things such as the effects of smoking, stress, cardiovascular disease, bad posture and what it actually does to the body.

It’s fascinating – you can see an enlarged heart caused by cardiovascular disease, black lungs caused by smoking and internal body fat surrounding the organs of overweight individuals.

It just really gives you something to think about.

I mean, we’ve only got one body and when you think about what some of us put it through day in day out it’s no surprise we are doing it damage.

I know people who drink a lot, smoke a lot, eat a lot of junk food and don’t exercise and are doing okay! They feel fairly healthy and some aren’t in too bad shape.

This proved to me though that despite what you feel, your body knows about it!

We can’t go on abusing it every day and expect to get away with it.

If you want to improve your health or habits and need a little help then get in touch, the options are below, or maybe you’re inspired and want to get in shape to get plastinated in one of his exhibitions 😉
