Just to warn you quickly I’m not talking about beer or wine.
Unfortunately drinking too much of that will make you fat as opposed to thin! What a shame.
In today’s quick post I’m talking about water.
You see drinking extra water is one of the simplest steps you can take to being healthier and leaner.
It’s an underestimated and often neglected part of a well balanced diet and program.
It has a big effect when it comes to fat loss so it’s surprising how many people don’t hit (or even get near) their recommended water intake!
As you science buffs know, water makes up almost 2/3 of our body and plays a major role in many of our bodily functions.
You’re much more likely to burn fat when you’re well hydrated.
The key benefits of drinking the right amount of water:
- Healthier joints (makes you less prone to injury)
- Healthier skin
- Healthier teeth and bones
- Increased energy levels and reduced fatigue
- Increased metabolism (helps to burn more fat)
- Improved digestion
If you wait until your thirsty before drinking then you’re already dehydrated.
Rather than downing pints of water when you feel thirsty keep yourself constantly hydrating all day. A good idea is to buy a big bottle/flask 1-2 litres and it’s easy to keep track of how much you’re drinking through the day.
You should be aiming to drink 2-4 litres a day. This depends on your body size and training. But definitely try and get at least 2 litres in, that’s around 4 pints of water.
This doesn’t include fizzy drinks, coffee, alcohol or tea.
If you don’t like drinking water on it’s own try adding a slice of lemon/cucumber or some fresh mint to give it a bit of a flavour boost.
PS If you want a program all set out for you (diet and exercise) to ensure you don’t overlook things like hydration for a fraction of the cost of personal training then check out my new online plan http://www.personaltrainerllanelli.co.uk/online-coaching/
