Do You Know Your Numbers?

News article this week:
‘Know your cholesterol like you know your pin code’
Do you know yours?
Sadly most people who know theirs are because they have a high level and are stuck on statins for the rest of their life.
Their advising you to know this figure as well as your blood pressure readings (good idea) as it may save your life.
These figures can flag up early warning signs of cardiovascular disease (CVD) which can result in strokes or heart attacks.
CVD is responsible for a very worrying 1 in 4 deaths in England.
High cholesterol and high blood pressure have no symptoms so can be very hard to pick up on.
Just so you know that recommended cholesterol levels are:
5mmol/L or less for healthy adults (4 for those at high risk, that’s people with family history of heart problems, overweight or have high blood pressure).
Blood Pressure:
high blood pressure is usually 140/90mmHg or higher
ideal blood pressure is usually between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg
low blood pressure is lower than 90/60mmHg
High cholesterol can be quite a controversial ‘disease’ depending on who you speak to and what you read, often due to the prescription of statins and being on them for life often.
I’m not here to discuss that today though and am a fan of an idea of just being a bit more aware about your health.
The article was written to urge people over 40 to book a free NHS health check (if available in your area) and for over 30s to take this ‘Check your heart age test’Ā https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/for-your-body/check-your-health/heart-age-test/
I think we all deserve to live a full and healthy life but we have got to look after ourselves and treat our body with respect so any methods to improve our chances of this I fully support.
One method which will improve your health no doubt is my Revitalise training program. It’s helped 100s of local people over the past 7 years and shall hopefully now that it’s new and improved help much much more.
Know your numbers!
Have a healthy weekend,
Jamie Stedman
