Morning
You probably heard this on the news last week.
If not then they did a study looking into whether overweight people can still be fit and healthy despite their weight.
Experts speaking in Portugal say that it is a myth that people can be fat and medically fit.The work is as yet unpublished. They looked into the GP records of 3.5 million people living in the UK. So it is pretty comprehensive.
They were testing whether obesity had an effect on things such as cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and blood sugar levels.
They tested people with a BMI of over 30 at the start of the study but with none of the above health problems at that point.
The study found (contrary to an earlier big study) that obese people were at much higher risk of developing such health problems than people with a normal BMI.
The message that people from the study wanted to make was even if you are healthy in every other way, being overweight does increase your chances of BIG life changing (and sometimes ending) health problems.
Most of our reasons for wanting to shift a few pounds is to look a bit better and feel a but better. Nothing wrong with this but there’s so much to it than that.
Losing weight saves/prolongs life and increases quality of life.
What better reason can there possibly me than that to make a few healthy meals and have a little walk/exercise session?
A study last month found that there are more obese people in the world than underweight FFS!!
Look after you and your family and do something good for your health.
Take care,
Jamie Stedman
