‘Healthy’ Processed Foods Vs Ultra Processed Foods

Jame Stedman vs Processed Foods Round 319…. Ding Ding
But what is this in the title?
Healthy processed foods? Surely not!
Read on….
Okay so I haven’t had a change of heart and I’m not here to now promote healthy microwave meals, but I am going to hopefully offer a bit of help in clearing up any confusion between what processed foods are simply terrible for you and ones which are okay and handy when in a rush.
Processed foods s a very general term and covers a lot of things.
Some foods are minimally processed which can be okay whereas others are ultra processed and made by evil men in evil lab coats!!
The latter are the ones to avoid if you want to stay healthy.
Any food which has been altered from it’s natural state is ‘processed’.
The problems tend to be when the food goes further and further away from its natural state.
Minimally Processed Foods (which are okay)
– Frozen veg
– Frozen fruit
– Roasted nuts
– Bags of salad
– Tinned veg
– Tinned fish
Most of their nutritional benefits are maintained in the process. These foods are good to eat when you haven’t got time to cook, haven’t done the shopping, when you’re in a pinch basically.
They shouldn’t move you too far away from your goals and should allow you to keep progressing.
Ultra Processed Foods (which you should stay away from)
– Cookies
– Chocolate bars
– Ice cream
– Pizza
– Cakes
– Ready meals
These tend to be wacky combinations of oils, sugars, salts and various other ingredients which are hard to pronounce. The ones with a hefty long ingredient list on the back of the pack.
Overconsuming these foods will eventually lead to health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity and more.
Did you know that you don’t need an ingredient list for an apple or an egg?
These are the foods we should be choosing.
