How many of you find the gym boring?
I’ve been a member of a gym for the last 12 years or so and the amount of times I’ve heard ‘The gym is boring’ is many.
Am I here to prove to you that the gym isn’t boring?
Not really.
You see the gym is boring to many people because they ‘train’ in a boring way.
10 minutes on the treadmill
10 minutes on the bike
3 sets of 10 on a couple of machines
10 minutes on the rower
10 minutes on the cross trainer
zzzzzzzzz…….
That is boring!
Or heaven forbid a whole hour on the treadmill like I see some people (who aren’t even runners) doing.
How long can you keep that routine up 3-5 times a week?
I know I couldn’t do it.
There’s so many better ways of doing it:
– Going to a class for variety
– Training with a friend who KNOWS what they’re doing
– Getting a PT or attending small group sessions like I offer: https://www.personaltrainerllanelli.co.uk/one-one-group-training/
– Perform higher intensity exercise and be done in less than half the time
That sounds good to me!
Take 5-10 mins before and after your workout to warm up and cool down and then perform a high intense circuit like this:
– Air squats
– DB Squat & Press
20s on 10s rest – alternate between the two exercises perform for 4 minutes
Rest 1 minute and then repeat
Rower machine 20s hard – 10s easy for 4 minutes
Rest 1 minute and then repeat
Short, sharp, safe and a bit more interesting. It’s called tabata training and anyone can do it. You just need to monitor the intensity safely.
More time to spend doing the things you find more interesting outside of the gym then.
Have a good weekend,
Jamie Stedman
