There’s nothing quite like a bout of flu or other illness to derail your training and diet progress.
This time of year as you know it’s pretty rife.
Seems to be a new bug or illness ‘going around’ each week.
I like to think I look after my body and that’s why I very rarely get ill. (Saying that I was ill over the weekend, that was after having injections for my travelling later this year).

Regular exercise, plenty of sleep and most importantly a healthy diet is what I put it down to.
If you eat clean then you’re going to boost your health and you’ll feel (and look) good.
That’s why many people get ill on these low calorie diets, they get very little goodness in their diet and their body crashes!
So today I want to give you a list of 5 foods which will help to boost your immune system and help beat off the coughs and colds this winter. Eating these to prevent illness is better than dosing yourself up on tablets and meds when you’re already ill.
Do it the natural way.
1. Bone broth – I know not very commonly eating and doesn’t sound the most appealing but bone broth is rich in calcium, phosphorus, sulphur, magnesium and much more. Can be stored in the fridge and heated up and drunk from a mug.
2. Citrus fruits – The high levels of vitamin C helps to fight off cold symptoms. Oranges, grapefruits and kiwi fruit are great.
3. Garlic and Onions – As well as giving a massive flavour hit to your food these foods help ward off bacteria and viruses.
4. Sweet potato – Delicious whether you boil it, mash it, roast it or bake it. Rich in virus fighting beta-carotene.
5. Ginger – Contains potent chemicals work help to suppress coughs and fight colds.
As I’m feeling a bit generous here are a few bonus foods to eat which will help too:
- Pumpkin seeds
- Mushrooms
- Fish
- Brazil Nuts
There we are!
Get your cupboards stocked up with these foods over the winter months to keep those coughs and colds at bay, allowing you to stay fit and healthy all year round.
Look after yourself,
