Do You Do Something For Yourself Every Day?

In a fast paced world many of us out ourselves last.
Which is definitely a little backwards if you ask me.
We are so busy trying to cram everything into every day, looking after children, parents, friends, siblings, partners that there’s no time left for ourselves.
Mums are especially good at this.
It’s good to care so much but if you don’t take care of yourself you won’t be able to take care of others.
How people do it wrong:
– Grab just a piece of toast or just coffee at breakfast as you’re too busy getting the kids ready
– Work through your lunch break as you’re trying to stay on top of work
– Grabbing a ready meal on the way home as you’re too tired to cook
– Drinking a shedful on the weekend to get over the stress of the week
– Watching TV until late and then wondering why you can’t sleep
This is many if not most of people’s rough weekly pattern, week in week out
Surviving on carbs and coffee!
This is a fast track to being sick and unhappy (and most likely overweight).
The people we look after are to some degree always going to need looking after but what you need to do is put aside a little bit of time just for you EVERY SINGLE DAY
It could be a few hours, it could just be 5 minutes – you need to do it.
Examples:
– Going to the gym in the mornings before work
– Going for a walk on your lunch break
– Having time in the evenings to sit down and have a good dinner
– Finding 10 minutes to do some deep breathing or meditating
– Finding an hour to work on your hobby sport, music, art, reading
I’m trying to include the meditation in my day just for 10 mins and see how I get on with that.
This year I added making sure I have at least an hour away from all work activities in the day to have some lunch and sometime watch an episode of something on netflix.
It’s definitely helping.
